What is Annual Leave Entitlement?

Also known as statutory leave, annual leave is the legal minimum amount of paid holiday that eligible workers are entitled to each year. Most workers are entitled to 5.6 weeks of paid holiday in a year. The specific number of days is shaped around an individual’s working pattern. Full-time workers who work 5 days a week will receive 28 days of paid holiday, whilst entitlement for part-time workers is calculated on a pro-rata basis. As an example, someone working 3 days a week will be entitled to 16.8 days—3 days x 5.6. When it comes bank holidays, employers can elect to include them in employees’ 5.6 weeks of statutory leave. Also, statutory annual leave entitlement is capped at 28 days, meaning those working beyond 5 days will still only be eligible for 28 days paid holiday.
